FACILITIES: An Overview

The SMART Network is home to one of the largest and most diverse collaboration groups in Canada. Located at the University of Alberta, The Network’s core facilities span across 11 buildings highlighted on the map below.

The 4 cores of the smart network:

Device Development & Biological Testing

Sensorimotor Integration & Machine Learning

Device Development & Biological Testing

Develops smart wearables, implantable neural interfaces and conducts biological testing and clinical trials.

Robotics and Virtual Reality

Sensorimotor Integration & Machine Learning

Device Development & Biological Testing

Evaluate and provide guidance for revisions of neural interface systems and rehabilitation training approaches. Also expand the delivery of healthcare to remote locations by E-health.

Sensorimotor Integration & Machine Learning

Sensorimotor Integration & Machine Learning

Sensorimotor Integration & Machine Learning

Improving the function and acceptability of advanced prosthetic / assistive robotic systems and developing solutions for enhancing human-machine interfaces and reducing the cognitive burden of controlling an artificial limb.

Rehabilitation Innovations

Sensorimotor Integration & Machine Learning

Sensorimotor Integration & Machine Learning

Generating crucial basic knowledge of the central nervous system and effective rehabilitation interventions and translating them to the clinical realm.
